The Art

While referencing family traditions under-recognized in the art world, Atisha holds them in high regard.

Her investment with the notions of home and family as subjects create ways to access memories.

Her drawings and photographs hold these memories for safe-keeping.

Her work depicts beings that float; existing between the many places she’s lived and her desire for belonging in them.

This is a place; a mental space that many immigrants occupy.

Atisha is of Guyanese birth and American citizenship.

Inspired by Maroon cultures in the Americas, Atisha’s work merges landscapes and interiors in an investigation of safe spaces and their relation to the resistance of displacement.

Her work honors leisure, employing the depiction of domestic spaces, fauna, found patterns, fabric and most notably, people.
